This autumn, the V&A and Crafts Council will celebrate the role of making in our lives by presenting an eclectic selection of over 100 exquisitely crafted objects. As part of this major exhibition entitled ‘Power of Making’ people from around the world were invited to upload short films about making and a selection of the best entries will be continually screened in the exhibition. This film by Greg Rodland Buick, of me throwing a large Moon Jar was selected. It is so great to have such a talented photographer and now film maker as a brother.

How exciting! I don’t wonder, though. Two talented brothers doing what they love doing best. An interesting subject to choose. “Making” is such a uniquely human activity — our propensity for making objects and fashioning tools which help us obtain food and shelter is the trait which sets us apart from the rest of the animal kingdom, surely, but what other species makes solely for the joy of making? or with the sole intent of making something that has no other purpose than our own gratification? And there is a special delight to be had from watching a beautiful object being made before our eyes.
As always enjoying your posts and look forward to more films. Your lucky to be able to work outside its been chucking it down up in the far north all summer. That said if you ever fancy a trip to some really wild landscapes, an expedition by canoe, or a night or two in a remote bothy let me know. The north west coast of Scotland can take your breath away.
